I have always loved planetary nebulae, they have such interesting detail and are so different one from another. Because some of these nebulae are similar . . .

Installing Meade LXD75 Motors on a Vixen Great Polaris
[Article | 05/18/13 | by Thomas Lee
I recently gave a fellow CNer some advice on installing some motors from a Meade LXD 75 on a Vixen Great Polaris mount. It occured to me that since I had a. . .

Review of Nova Hitch Mount
[User Review]  | 04/27/13 | by Kelsey Golden
As far as alt-az mounts go, I believe the Nova is simply the best you can buy - and certainly one of the only ones capable of handling a huge refractor like my friend's TEC 140. So if you're in the market for a high end alt az mount that is easy to set up and use, I don't think you'll regret choosing the Nova.
Review of Orion BinoViewer
[User Review]  | 03/24/13 | by Tom Fowler
I highly recommend this (or any other high-quality) binoviewer, especially for solar system observing and brighter deep-sky objects. It is well worth the cost and the expense of purchasing some additional eyepieces. The views are spectacular, and in my experience allow you to see more detail on many types of objects. Using two eyes is also much more pleasant than squinting to use one.
Review of RigelSys Electric Focuser
[User Review]  | 03/24/13 | by Charles Hall
I find an electric focuser to be indispensable. The RigelSys offerings are an excellent solution. The more sophisticated stepper motor version offers even more precision, but as you can see from my review the more basic motor and its hand controller more than meet my needs.
Astronomy Technologies 8” F/4 Astrograph
[User Review]  | 03/24/13 | by Paul Temple
This is a great bang for the buck! It is one of the finest instruments I have used and is actually cheaper than my Celestron 6” refractor OTA. For imaging this is a great set up and I am surprised that others have not figured this out and started buying them like hotcakes! It is a good size for a Sirius/Atlas or CGEM or similar mount.
The Skywatcher 8 Collapsible Dob
[User Review]  | 03/24/13 | by Karthik Jayashankar
I am super happy with the purchase. The scope has been out almost every night in the last week except for a couple of days. Saturn was like a textbook image through the 10mm with the barlow. I’m now waiting to see how it takes a 7-hour Indian road trip next week when I take it up into the hills.
QHY-22 mini review
[User Review]  | 02/23/13 | by Ioannis Ioannou
I have a very good feeling about QHY22 so far. The camera seems to work very well into the specifications with no bad surprises.
Megrez 90 FD - Fluorite doublet review
[User Review]  | 02/02/13 | by Gianluca Rossi
The Megrez 90 FD is a very good grab&go telescope for doing any kind of astronomy, from visual observations of the planets to wide-field DSO photographing to photometric measures.
Review: Eyepieces by Olivon Manufacture Group
[User Review]  | 02/02/13 | by John Kramer
Olivon may not yet be a name synonymous with astronomical accessories, but they have a very strong offering into the eyepiece world with the aforementioned line-up. Olivon should certainly gain the attention of backyard stargazers looking for quality eyepieces at reasonable prices.
Optic Craft Machining Clock Drive Review
[User Review]  | 01/21/13 | by John Hayes

I cannot recommend this product to anyone.  I would also urge serious caution to anyone considering doing business with Optic-Craft.  My attempts to resolve this in a fair way were rejected and I did not experience a very high level of integrity when I tried to get this resolved.  Mr. Clinard was unwilling to stand behind the quality of this product.

GCE filters from DGM Optics
[User Review]  | 01/21/13 | by Al Milano
One of the joys of using this GCE filter - Is that I simply leave a pair of them screwed into the threaded EP barrels of my Garrett signature series 10x50's - And, I just leave them attached all the time. I don't find my views of Asterisms, or Open Clusters darkened very much at all. Yet, they improve the views of all DSO's at same time.
Detailed test: Siebert 40mm VP Echelon
[User Review]  | 01/19/13 | by Peter Vercauteren
The Siebert VP Echelon is definitely not a binoviewer for beginners, nor is it a good idea to use it on public nights. You must have a certain experience in order to find the right position in front of the (gigantic) eyepiece lenses and for being able to adjust the binoviewer to your own requirements.
Review: iOptron 6002 900X70 Refractor Telescope
[User Review]  | 01/06/13 | by James Burke
At well under 100 bucks for a 70mm f/13, these are a bargain. Just be prepared to make a few changes.
Review: The Complete Guide To The Herschel Objects
[User Review]  | 01/06/13 | by Fred Rayworth
If you’re a deep-sky observing enthusiast, out to conquer the Herschel 2,400, this is the best book out there. Not only will it define these objects, it will clear up many of the fuzzy areas, give a what-to-expect for each object, and spur you on your way. Highly recommended.

Edmund 4.25” Deluxe Space Conqueror
[User Review]  | 11/22/12 | by Tom Duncan
The Edmund 4.25” Deluxe Space Conqueror is a great scope, and not just for its day. If you would like to visit the (quality) roots of amateur astronomy keep an eye out for one of these.
