The brass track as seen through the hole where the focuser assembly and knob attaches. The two small screws that hold this knob assembly to the cast aluminum sled body are too small, at least in my SP-C6. The two holes you see here are the drilled and tapped (threaded) screw holes. Now the other two holes in the focuser knob assembly, the holes without threads, these are too large for the screws. It is this oversight that causes the knob assembly to "slip" down. This is with my 1990 model version.

The easiest solution is to loosen the two screws and then wedge a piece of metal under the knob assembly. Tighten back the two screws and leave it at that. But you could just re-drill and tap the threaded screw holes in the cast aluminum to accept larger screws.
