I would tend not to add any grease to the brass gear and track if it appears clean already. One could add a very small amount of high quality synthetic such as Super-Lube Multi-Purpose Grease. There are many issues with Lithium grease so it would be wise to avoid using that. If there is sticky grease already there then leave it there. I ended up adding small pin head sized pieces of LaBelle 106 white grease with Teflon to the focuser shaft bearing and the brass track and gear itself.
