You can either find one for sale or you can by a C8 OTA new. Just make sure it has the Vixen V mount/CG-5 dovetail.

As for my scope..

I got both my C6/6SE and C8/8SE OTAs from here in the Cloudy Nights Classified section for around $300 each. Just make sure the person has been around awhile or has good feed back but so far I have not gotten scammed on there yet. I actually have a CG5 mount I use them on and a GT mount I use for the 6SE for grab and go.

Finally got my new NexStar 8SE set up to the configuration I wanted.
Here is the list:
SCOPE-NexStar 8SE
DEW SHIELD-Astrozap for the 8SE
FINDER SCOPE-Orion EZ finder Deluxe II
DIAGONAL-Orion Flip Mirror
EYEPIECE-20mm Eyepiece set par-focal with video cameras.
CAMERA-(in this photo) StellaCam III
DISPLAY-Orion Mini-DVR
VIBRATION PADS-Celestron
POWER SOURCE-Sears 22AH battery tank

The telescope is excellent and does really well with video cameras. This is quickly becoming my favorite set up.

Clear Skies to all!

Got the CPC Tripod in the other day. Finally got to try it out tonight. I gotta say, its very heavy. Very nice too.

Also, I installed Bob's knobs as well. I like how they stand out on the secondary.

I see you have the ASI 120 box there too...how goes it with the little red giant? I'm still trying to get a handle on it. The learning curve from wxastrocapture/neximage to firecapture/ASI is steep. I have a lot of work to do. If you feel daring, start a thread for us to soak in your success.

Good idea on the camera thread. That device appears to have just the right price/performance features for the SE series of scopes.

Here is my NexStar 8SE mounted on a shiny new AVX. Ignore the deck, I need to re-stain it. :)

Thanks.

$30.

I posted a thread a couple of days where I detailed this very easy and inexpensive mod with locally sourced materials.

After having looked at all of these photos many times, my strictly visual set up is now complete (I think)- one trip out to the deck. Any comments or suggestions for improvements are very welcome.

How well does that jump starter work as a power pack for your telescope?

From the factory it needs work. Mine has been flocked, painted, new gso dual speed custom fitted, and refinished to polished aluminum. That being said, the optics are excellent, and very much warranted the 20+ hours I have invested in it. I wouldn't trade mine for the world!
