After having looked at all of these photos many times, my strictly visual set up is now complete (I think)- one trip out to the deck. Any comments or suggestions for improvements are very welcome.

That's a well kitted out 8se. Do you find that you use all 3 finders? I was thinking of sticking a red dot, glp and scope on mine but wasn't sure?

Are you happy with the feather touch also? Good mod or waste of money?

Looking good anyway. I will put mine up next time it's set up.

Great thread, I joined because of the nexstar section. I love my 8se :jump:

Thank you. I wouldn't be without a Telrad on any scope I don't think. The RACI is nice to have for the 9x view. The GLP is really just for fun.

The Feathertouch is a very nice upgrade, but not necessary at all.

Thanks - yes, please post a photo of your setup when you can.

Thanks for the reply Oliver. I've just bought a baader sky surfer V so that kind of negates the telrad. When it arrives I'll see where I can sneak a GLP. Like you say, good fun especially when showing people :)

I'll upload ASAP. Mines like yours but with less stuff

Greetings from the UK! Here's my 8SE.

Bought it from classifieds in virtually unused condition 3 weeks ago with the celestron EP kit, dew shield and padded case. The weather hasn't been too kind since then so I've been tinkering to pass the time. Yes, I'm a tinkerer :-/

Upgraded bits can be seen but mainly 2" WO carbon diagonal, baader 2" quicklock, baader 8-24 zoom mk3, 32mm panaview, baader sky surfer V, bobs knobs, JMI hand control bracket, DIY dew controller & dew straps from a small uk company.

A few eyepieces and filters and bits too which I'm going to slowly add to when I've used it a little more. I'd like to add a GLP at some stage but I can't work out which one or where to locate it so I've parked that idea for now. I won't be using it for imaging obviously so it's strictly a visual instrument that needs to be portable. (The sticker is just for fun and adds little to its performance :-P)

Latest edition is the DIY focuser that I made today from a redundant camera adaptor. Yet to try it but hopefully it will help fine focusing.

I live in a town with quite a bit of light pollution but I'm putting this together mainly for use at my fathers house in a very remote area where the skies are magnificent. I can't wait to get it up there soon..

This is my second proper scope (had 8" orion dob before) and I'm very happy with it so far. I've loved reading this thread for inspiration and I'll keep popping back :-)

Sorry for the life story!

All the best,

Andy

I love this thread, even though it's really old. Some of the best ideas are the cheapest! Velcro for a red flashlight, and the Wing Thing! The next thing I am considering is upgrading to a 2" diagonal. Since I have lots of great 1.25" eyepieces, will the upgrade be worth it? I have a Celestron NexStar 8SE.

Hi Jan,

Most 2" diagonals come with a 1.25 adapter so you will be able to use your 1.25 eyepieces should you buy one.

Regards. Peter.

Starry Jan, A 2" diagonal will give you a much more stable platform for your 1.25" eyepieces. You just have to make sure that the scope is far enough forward so as the diagonal clears the mounts base when slewing to zenith.Oh and by the way,a belated welcome to CN.

Thanks Oliver,
I can see that this would be a great accessory to have, just a shame about the price tag.

Ok this is my complete setup (minus the laser pointer in place of finder). That will be added on the next clear night. I was quite disappointed with the results from the Nexguide. I know I may have balancing issues but thats all for another thread.. Here she is....
