As a latecomer to observing - I started this year at the age of 44 - I have to live vicariously, and somewhat enviously, through reminisces like yours. Thanks for the "memories."

I sincerely enjoyed reading Jim Phillips' article and thanks to Allister for getting it posted. I remember the old AC Gilbert reflector I had, a tarnished-mirror castoff from a friend's kid brother. With too many other hobbies, it took another 30 years to get a complete working telescope.

The article reminds us all how every step of visible progress represents miles of purposeful work behind the scenes. Thanks again for publishing this fine piece.
