Hi all. I have heq5 mount (non goto version) and i can move the teleskope in RA and DEC in 2 ways - for large movement i should loosen the RA and DEC locks and manually swing the teleskope. For fine tuning i should lock the RA and DEC and use the hand controller. My question is - should i stop the tracking during manual large movements and turn it back on when i find the new object or i can leave it tracking during the large movement?

There's no problem making large movements during tracking, RA and DEC locks are actually a clutches, like in a car (you don't need to turn off your car to put it into 2nd...)

Ok thanks for the information. And one more question. I see that you have the synscan heq5. Have you tried prime focus photography without guiding (just polar align scope and tracking) and if yes how long exposures can be made using this method?

I allways do photography with autoguiding and drift polar aligned mount.
Once I've tried 1min exposures with 200mm tele and EOS but only 5 images out of 10 were "good".
