Anyone have some favorites for under $700 ?

I prefer feather touch controls.

Thanks,

Sean

For feather touch controls, get the Half-Hitch.

For < $700, Astro-Tech Voyager.

For anything in-between (you'll sacrifice slow-motion controls) there are options available from Stellarvue, Universal Astronomics, etc.

Can't afford the half hitch at $1,800 +.

Guess I'll go with the Voyager.

I've got my NP101 on a Celestron CG5-GT and it works very well. I picked it up for $599 delivered.

I believe that one of the Orion mounts is identical to the CG5.

Naw, no such thing as too many beers! Beer is proof that God loves us... :)

Good luck with the mount search.

Look for a good CG5-GT on the used market. Once in a while, an on-line store will have them marked down to around $500. It would serve your 101 well.

I have my TV 101 (not an NP) on an old Meade LXD-55. It is more than enough for this scope. Eliminates all balance issues that plague many Alt-az mounts except for the really expensive ones.

Can use it Go-to, or use it simply for electronic slewing.

And I have seen these selling used for $250 to $275.

Weighs to much to carry it out with the scope mounted, but if you drop the scope off, the mount with weight goes out in one trip.

The newer LXD and CG5s are without doubt sturdier, but the heavy steel tripods are overkill for a 4" scope. The Aluminum legs of the LXD55 are actually a PLUS from that perspective because they DO allow you to carry the mount with no great effort.

If you want to pare a few more pounds, put the LXD55 on a Vixen HAL 110, or HAL 130 tripod. Ahhhhh.....
