This was Linda's first time on the object and my second but it is always a joy to return to study it. There is something about this long edge-on view that is captivating and beautiful. We had just been discussing with our friends in a Southern California ministry how the heavens appropriately draw attention to their Creator...like a language that unspoken but ever present, which is what Psalm 19 declares along with a host of other scriptures.

NGC 4565 was the second object to sketch since we had just finished with M94. It was not a particularly great night for viewing with the Lancaster sky glow, some haze, and a desert wind, but the astro video equipment put a decent image on the screen so we could sit together and sketch it.

C8 with MCHC video camera
14 seconds integration with 60% gain
Magnification: about 160X
25 minute sketch about 11 pm PDT

It was a good night to give thanks.

The M94 sketches are on a previous thread rather than here. My apologies for being late with them when I was the one that suggested hitting it for a weekend sketch project.

Roland and Linda,

Stunning, beautiful sketches of NGC 4565. This must be a real treat on the monitor. I'll bet it doesn't fit all at once.

Roland and Linda,

Excellent observations of NGC 4565. That must have been an impressive sight for you both on your monitor. Thank you both for sharing them with us all.

Carlos

Thanks JimPie, Frank, and Carlos. As a matter of fact, the image at the settings we used just barely fit on the monitor screen. If we had used more aggressive settings, the faintest sections at the "ends" would not have fit. Sure is a wonderful object to watch and sketch. I can still see it.

Roland
