Hi Folks,

I’m looking for a well-designed, relatively inexpensive, Alt-Az mount to go with my 3246 Bogen Manfrotto tripod.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Bart

It would help to know what scope you plan to use with the mount but, absent that info, I'll put in my $.02.

If you can live without slow motion controls (that is, a purely manual mount) you might look at the mounts available from Universal Astronomics. Their DwarfStar mount is very small and starts at $149. The MicroStar Basic is the same price. Either of these scopes should work well on the pod you describe and either of them will handle up to an 8-10 lb. scope. I have a MicroStar. The entire line of UA scopes gets good reviews and are well made and of good quality, and the folks (Larry) at UA are good to deal with.

Good luck in your quest.

Bart,

I use the AYO mount (same as the original WO) on my Manfrotto 028 tripod. This set up I use with my Equinox 120.

Carry out in one piece (when the back allows).

Anything up to a five inch refractor.
