While waiting for the mount I have read the instruction manual, and as I understand it you have to do a star alignment to get the software/Goto controller started. The at seems a waste of time if you're going to do a drift align anyway.

So: What is your procedure for setting up your 900GTO (or 1200GTO for that matter) when you're starting from scratch (not in an observatory)?

I use the polar scope only if for visual, (and sometimes get it good enough that it is fine for guided imaging too.)

After the polar scope I will use PemPro, which comes with the mount, to further refine the alignment. Pempro is basically drift aligning using your CCD camera.

I can usually be ready to image within 30+ minutes after dark, if all goes well.

Enjoy your new mount!

I initially align my AP1200 with the polar scope then refine it using PoleAlignMax. Total time is about 15-20 minutes.

Pempro, or old fashion drift alignment. The star alignment is only one star so it only takes a minute.

But won't the star alignment get messed up when you do a drift alignment afterwards ?
Or do you do a new star alignment after the drift alignment ?

You just do a recalibrate on a bright star.
