HI I have seen a second hand scope which is described as a Sky-Watcher 100ED EQ5P. I can not find a similar mount in the UK with that description. Looking at pictures of differnent mounts at online stores, it seems that the EQ3 looks an exact match, however it is Black where as the US EQ5P is White.

IF this is the case it is very confusing. Can anyone provide some advice.

Is the Sky-Watcher EQ5P the bottom end of the US market?

No, Sky-Watcher has EQ1, 2, 3, 4, 5, HEQ5, and EQ6 mounts.
The EQ5 is similar in capacity and weight to: Celestron CG5, Orion Sky View Pro, Meade LXD75, etc.
In other words, a good mount for up to a 25 lb load.

In fact currently eq4 is not available. Skywatcher has eq3-2 and eq5. Both are clones of vixen mount and look similar but eq5 is bigger, heavier and has higher payload capacity. Heq5 and Eq6 are clones of takahashi mount and look different from eq3-2 and eq5.

Simon, the Sky-Watcher 100ED EQ5P can be had in the states for $1,100 right now. I saw a second hand price on A-mart that was substantially more. - j
