Losmandy G11 PC control without Gemini?

Something I can't seem to find a definitive answer to is whether or not the G11 can be controlled by a PC without the Gemini system. My guess is not since the rs232 port is located on the gemini box, but concidering the huge price difference I'd like to make sure.

It can be autoguided, but there's no way to do controlled slews without the gemini. Even if there were, the max slew speed of the standard steppers is far too slow.

There is also a system by SiTech. Same as offered on the larger MI systems.

Also, couldn't Mel Bartel's "scope" software and associated hardware be used to drive the standard stepper motors? I'm not sure of the exact ratios, but I know that was capable of making some fairly effective goto scopes out of more basic hardware.

Of course, that would involve a lot of DIY.
