Does anyone have any information on the Sky Watcher mounts? I am looking at the EQ5 Pro (Computerized) ... its on sale right now for a great price... I was thinking about mounting an 8" SCT to it. I have not found to much as far as reviews on this one.

Here's one -> http://www.skynews.c...escopesmj06.pdf

[EDIT] Note the review link above is for the HEQ5/EQ6 mounts and NOT the EQ5 pro which is smaller.[END EDIT]

The EQ5 is very similar to the Celestron Advanced GT. Both mounts are made by the same people in the same factory. Both will handle an 8" SCT with ease.

Not sure of the current price of the Skywatcher, but the Celestron was selling for $550 a few months ago...my guess is that it's still under $600 today. Check the price on both, as they are the same mount...unless you like white.

Astronomics has the Sky-Watcher 8SCT EQ5P 8" f/10 go-to equatorial Schmidt-Cassegrain on sale for $999.00 right now. If you already have a stand alone OTA then you could just get the mount by itself for $550.00!

Hey Ozzy,

The EQ5 Pro is a fine mount, and $550 is a good price. I was going to offer that OPT was selling them for $499, but they now show out of stock.

Here's the thing, though: You can pick up a new CG5-GT at www.highpointscientific.com, and elsewhere probably, for $575. I think the CG5-GT, while a bit loud, would be a better mount, and the NexStar hand control is, once again in my opinion, a better hand control with more sophisticated options.

Just my tuppence.

Wow ..good price on the CG5 ... I looked at those and was finding them in the $700's. .. oh man! Decisions Decisions!
On a slightly seperate note... anyone have a good starting price for the Nexstar single arm mount? I was thinking 400-450?
