I am about to take the plunge and buy a new CGEM and was wondering what you CGEM owners have done to accessorize your mounts. My otas have vixen style dovetail bars and I know the knobs can be upgraded. So what have you done and where did you go to buy the upgrades? Thanks!

I got the ADM knob kit for my new CGEM. Also got their replacement CGEM combo saddle and their Vixen side-by-side setup. I bought an extension cord for the hand control from ScopeStuff. I love my new mount - I hope you enjoy yours!

Scott's link was just the tip of the iceberg.

Here's the mother of all CGEM add-ons and such from ADM... All the kool kids are doing it!

The ADM Dual Saddle is a "must have".

Does the knob kit come with new screws or is it just the knob that will fit on the old screws. One of my AZ screws somehow got cross threaded so if it is all new screws as well I am getting the kit for mine.

Does anyone know if they make a D-style plate in the new Celestron orange like the Edge HD scopes (and that a lot of these parts also come in)? It would be nice to be able to match the color scheme used on the new scopes for some other OTA's.

Thanks,

-Gord

Knobs are machined metal and include the threaded bolt part. Careful inserting the new bolt, do it a few times and you should be able to recondition the threads in the casting. Unfortunately it's usually the casting or receiving end that gets damaged when you cross thread a bolt.

If you can't resurrect the threads you can effectively replace them with a Helicoil, then have Anthony at ADM make you up a new bolt that matches the new threads.

Talk to Anthony at ADM directly, he does have the ability to anodize some of his parts in different colors ... for a price.

I had my brother-in-law the woodworker make a custom eyepiece tray/tripod spreader for my CGEM. If I could only keep one accessory, it would be the one..

Dan-

Definitely add an extension for the hand control cable to the list...I got one at scopestuff-
The stock cable is too short for my use in my observatory.

I just picked up my CGEM a few weeks ago and the weather on the East Coast has not been very accommodating for viewing. In the mean time, I ordered and installed just about all of ADM's enhancements. While the picture does not show it, I also added the tripod leg knobs.
