I have ordered the Gemini retrofit on line and, of course, there is a back-order, have no idea how long I'll wait for delivery. In the meantime, I have heard that there are other Go-To retrofits that are less expensive. Can anyone advise re Go-To systems for the G-11? Also, I have the Sky Commander DSC on my DM-6, and wonder if anyone has adapted it to the G-11. Curious how difficult it is to install the encoders.

You might also want to look at the SiTech. You can combine an Agro Navis with it for a really sweet system. Much more intuative in operation also, oh and the Agro is flash upgradable without pulling it apart. If your in a cold climate the Argo has a built in screen heater to solve that problem.

Ever heard of the Little Foot controller project?

Have a look here...

Can be ordered as a complete unit here:

For fast goto you will have to uprgade to a different Stepper/Gear combination. For somebody with some mechanical skills an interesting alternative that saves money. ;)

Here is one alternative.....use google translate

http://www.micgiga.c...crogiga_016.htm

and another

http://www.telescope...rt/FS2.html#FS2

And one last one

http://ramonatech.com/products.html

All three offer kits specifically for the losmandy mounts. No experience with them but what I have read about the FS2 system has all been good.

Phil:

The Skymaster is also directly flash upgradable and is a very nice DSC system. Would prefer not to buy another system, since mine is new and works great. More concerned about the encoder issue with the G-11. Can you provide the URL for SiTech?

Chris:

Looks like a nice system. I assume that I must get the servo motor setup for any go-to system. The price assembled is far lower than Gemini. I will research this. Appreciate your input.

Remember The Gemini isn't you have to manually change the chip. I think your DSC would work with the SiTech, you'd have to check with them.
Here's the link you requested.

This flash upgrade thing has been hashed over before. IT takes all of a couple of minutes to change a chip on the Gemini, not a big deal at all.
Plus, flash upgrades are not flawless either, they do fail at times and you have to deal with it too.
The Gemini is a great system. It is not that hard to use, has great features and is very accurate.

It's all a matter of opinion. Some like it, some think it's showing it's age. Blueman if you read the thread the OP was asking about alternatives to the Gemini. The Gemini isn't an alternative to the Gemini.
