Can anybody advise me how well (or how badly !) a Celestron CG5 mount would handle the Meade AR5 5" F/9 optical tube for visual use ?

The CG5 in question is the newer type with 2" diameter steel tripod legs.

Also, would it be better to replace the standard Meade dovetail bar with something more robust and perhaps longer ?

Thanks,

John

For visual, it will work fine. It handles the larger C6R. I have one, and the CG-5 mount.

I have used mine with no problems. I would get the extention for the mount or you might need to get very low when viewing overhead.
