I was able to view a conjunction (or appulse) of the Waxing Gibbous Moon (10.8 days old) and Jupiter on September 30, 2009 (00:00 U.T., 8 PM EDT) over my southern sky. The Moon (-12.45m) and Jupiter (-2.67m) were very striking but the presence of clouds containing ice crystals, which produced a pastel reddish-pink and orange colors semi-halo, made it spectacular! I hope that others were able to view the event as well.

Carlos,

Wonderful capture of the shallow sky targets. The moon even looks close. Very realistic drawing Carlos. :rainbow:

Frank,

Thank you for the compliment on my Moon and Jupiter conjunction observation. It was a spectacular sight, especially with the colorful cloud. The best of luck in your own observations.

Great sketch, Carlos. I noticed the conjunction last night too and appreciate the sketch documenting the moment.

Another classic Carlos, the weather here of late has been poor, but thanks to you I can see the conjunction.

Thanks for that.

Joe and Paul,

Thank you both for the compliments on my Moon and Jupiter conjunction observation. It was a sight to see the Moon with blazing Jupiter nearby and the colorful clouds. I was fortunate to view the event considering the poor weather we have been experiencing. The best of luck in your own observations.

I'm glad someone got this, Carlos, and your sketch gives a great feel. My status at work as an astro-nerd were more than confirmed by the questions about the "bright star by the Moon" that night. :) - j

Very well done Carlos! I saw the moon and Jupiter next to each other for a moment last night but our first big storm of the season arrived yesterday changing the temps from the 80's to the 50's in one day and the clouds just rumbled by closing up the view quickly. Again, I love the colors and details you show in your sketch.

Jay, Jay, and Tommy

Thank you all for the compliments on my Moon and Jupiter conjunction observation. The colors were spectacular with the Moon and Jupiter in the field. I hope that you all get to observe other conjunctions in the future.

Carlos
