I would like to know what other counterweights used in other mounts would properly fit a CGEM shaft. The CGEM 11lbs original counterweight is a bit expensive.

I ordered an 11 lb Atlas counterweight for my CGEM (about half the cost of the CGEM one). In talking with the orion rep beforehand it seems that they both have the same shaft diameter so it *should* work. I'll let you know when it gets here in the next few days.

Confirmed it works. A little bit "looser" than the stock CGEM one but it still works fine.

The CGEM and CG5 weights are interchangeable. I also just ordered and use the 7.5 lb SkyView weight for smaller setups on the CG5. So... you have a number choices that should give you a range to work with.

I can confirm that the Orion Atlas weights work on the CGEM. Why pay twice the price? ;)

My weight worked but the unfortunately my CGEM didnt... I posted the weight results before I took it out for it's "maiden voyage" (see CGEM lemon post). It's good to know the small 7.5lb skyview weights work as well - seems like finding suitable cheaper counterweights are no prob for the CGEM.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope it works fine soon for your purchase.
