My '78 Questar will arrive in a few days. The person who sold it to me bought it used himself, and the original Brandon eyepieces weren't included when he bought it. He's including a Televue 24mm, but I was wondering about the Baader Hyperion 8-24mm zoom, an eyepiece I've heard a lot of good things about.

Has anyone tried it in Questar?

Not me, but not long ago, someone showed me that very eyepiece, and said it is the best zoom out there.

Hi Steve,

A Nagler 16 T 5 or Ethos 10 work wonderfully in a Q. However, I keep returning to the Brandons. I use the 24mm and 12mm most. My barlow is ca. 1.6x. The Brandons are just a wonderful match to the Questar in both performance and convenience. Unequalled in he sum of their qualities in the Questar by any of my eyepieces. And I have quite a few...
Anyhow, a Questar has it's own zoom: the built-in barlow. Works great.

Clears skies,

One thing to think about is will the Baader zoom focus in the finder? Tele Vue has an adapter that claims to allow all of their eyepieces to focus in the 3.5 finder. Would that include all or most other brands to focus as well, specifically the Baader 24-8 zoom?

There is a list of EP's that are Questar compatible, and focus with finder on Questar Group on Yahoo.

In the past I posted (click here) a list (which is more up-to-date than the file on the "Yahoo group") that identifies which eyepieces come to focus in the Questar Finder.
