Is it the same as the CG-5? What I mean is, would the CGEM mount itself fit the CG-5 tripod mount base?

Doug,

No, not the same as the CG-5 ... the CGEM is the same as the Atlas/EQ-6. The tripods have the same legs and look similar but the size of the round inset area at the top of the tripod is not the same.

Yes and no... The center "pilot" hole is larger on the CG-5, but you could probably still center the mount, and the DEC locating pin is too short, but you could change that. The tri-pods are identical.

Nope.

CGEM mount base = Atlas mount base

CG5 mount base is incompatible.

If you're concerned about getting enough saddle height for a long refractor, the Atlas pier extension works with the CGEM tripod.

Jim

No, thinking about having to make a new mounting for my pier to have to hold either the Atlas or the CGEM. Hoped I wouldn't have to.

Looks like the extension post for the Atlas is the same diameter as the SVP post. This greatly simplifies my altering the present CG-5 mount adapter I have on the pier.
