Saturn season is upon us again! A few years ago I found a web site, Braye Brook Observatory, which had an Observing Saturn page.

They have a complete 1° to 28° series of .pdf templates of Saturn on that page linked to above.

Once imported into a graphics program like Photoshop one may edit out the various unnecessary CAD construction lines.
After some editing the results are a nice template for drawing Saturn. The attached example image I made is of Saturn at 3°.
Passing this image through an anti-aliasing filter would solve the jagged edges.
I import the Saturn images into Microsoft Word which adds an anti-aliasing filter to the image and smooths out the jagged edges. Then you just print out the page.

Hope this helps someone

Thanks Sky, Saturn is much easier to sketch with a template.

Thanks Tommy.

A single degree of difference is quite noticeable.
I made this animation to demonstrate how a single degree changes the appearance of Saturn significantly!

I checked The Sky software for the ring angle - Latitude of the Earth from Saturn's perspective - and obtained the following figures:

March 28 2010 = 2.9°
April 28 2010 = 1.9°
May 28 2010 = 1.6°
June 28 2010 = 2.1°
July 28 2010 = 3.1°
August 28 2010 = 4.6°

Starting around mid April people should switch to the 2° template.
So here is a template with Saturn at 2°!

nice work and help. perhaps the moderator can stick them somewhere for future "generations" to use when they need them.
