Hello everybody,

I've seen an add for a TV Gibraltar mount head, with handle, with TV encoders & SkyTour, 2 EP trays, on an Oberwerk tripod - seller says its the "heavy duty" (?) Oberwerk (but not the Jarrah) all for 700$ plus shipping. I want to use an Orion Apex 127mm Mak Cass on it with medium to heavy EPs at those realatively high magnifications that the Apex 127 is good at.

Questions:

1) Will the Apex 127 OTA fitt in the cradle?

2) Will this work - i.e. will hand guiding at high mags be a real pain? (as in oooh there it is ... ouups &%$*##@&* now its gone ...)

3) Will this be stable enough on the Oberwerk tripod?

4) Is this a fair deal? (To me it looks pretty darn good)

Please send all your wisdom.

Thanks and cheers

Michael

I can't vouch for the rest of the mount but the tripod should be fine, it's the same one my EZTouch came with. I've used my IM715 mak-it has 2" and red dot finders and a Crayford-on the EZ at 370X and damping was good. Tracking at high power with a fairly heavy scope on a manual mount is a good torture test for a tripod. I have the legs extented 3/4 of the way out. David

TeleVue cradle is 5.25" wide and 3" deep. Apex 127" diameter is about 5.6"(?). Pretty sure the Apex 127 will not fit the TeleVue cradle.
