could anyone help last night when trying to drift align i was getting perfect
alignment i could get the star in the middle of the cross hairs and it would'nt
drift up or down but it did start to drift left and right now i prosume that
this is a pec error of the worm gear is there any adjustments i could do to
correct this i have adjusted the worm gear prior to this to try to get better
tracking but i think i have made this worse i ideas please

i have started to realign the worm again it comes to a
point where i stop getting the backlash the gear runs nice and smooth and then
every so often it hits a point where it starts to bind i'am turning the cog
manually not by the motor

binding is bad, you must back off a little. you must turn the gear full 360 degrees so that there isn't any binding point.

The backslash doesn't affect tracking but it may affect gotos. IF you don't have gotos, then it's no problem. But when you turn the ra axis manually to center a star, you must rotate the ra in the tracking direction to compensate for the backslash. If not your PE will suffer...

The worm gear spacing must be set to the highest spot on the ring gear. A ring gear may not be perfectly round or machined so it is necessary to go all the way around the gear to ensure that you are adjusted to the high spot(s). The best way to make the adjustment is with the mount slewing. When you hear the gears begin to bind, then back off on the adjustment just enough to avoid the binding. In addition, use as little pressure on the axis lock as possible (by making sure the mount is well balanced) since it can deform the ring gear just enough to make it out of round and cause binding.
