I bought a really cheap EQ3 mount, with a 5" reflector attached and all kind of things -- oh and a motor -- for really cheap, with the plan of using the mount to put a DSLR on...

I knew I would have to do a bit of TLC on the mount in most probability; so anyone have played with these before ?

I took mine apart, and I see that the "clutch" system is entirely based on friction on the main axis, with plastic washers etc... any lubrication on the other rotating parts does screw up the clutch... I've been wondering what to do to make the mount a bit smoother...

So, anyone figured these out for "repurposing" ? :-)

Please provide more detail about your mount, picture would be better. Picture of internals of the motor drive would be even better.
I was doing some TLC on similar mount, so I can share some ideas if it is similar to my mount. Are you handy with soldering iron?
