Is there a way to directly input the RA and Dec for an object to have the ETX slew to it?

The only way I can find is to first enter the data as a User Object.

Thanks,

Bob

Yes-- see page 32 in this manual if you are using the 497 hand controller-

Thanks, Joe.

I was looking for a more direct method, but I guess there is none.

OK-------- TRY THIS-- Hold down the MODE key for 2-3 seconds The RA & DEC coordinates display. Press GOTO and a set of coordinates appear (object Position).

Enter the RA & DEC of the object you want to go to. \\How about THAT! Nothing is stored in the hand controller. The other method stores the coordinates.

Of course the scope must already be aligned before you do this.

Well, believe it or not, that's the first thing I tried, but apparently didn't do it right.

If the clouds EVER go away, I'll try that.

Thanks,

Bob

After you align the scope you can also press the mode key for the 2-3 seconds to get the RA/DEC numbers to appear. Then you can slew wherever you want to go and the RA/DEC numbers increment automatically in the handset. As you approach your final destination slow down the slew rate and you should be able to see the object in the eyepiece, assuming there is no slippage in the 'scopes drive systems.
