New Borg FL71 at F3.6 (First Light)

So I got my new Borg FL71 at F3.6 with their Mini Borg Super Reducer on Friday. This is an incredible astrograph. Vey fast and great flat field. I did use not flats with these shots I got over the weekend. Not a cheap scope. But worth every cent!!!

Very nice, AJ. I saw some of your photos on the DigiBorg Blog last week and was quite impressed, also especially seeing as I'm considering the Atik-314L. The FL71 looks like a very capable optic and a good match for the 314L.

The 314L is a very low noise, sensitive CCD. I was not sure if the pixels would be small enough for this scope. But the results speak for themselves.

I just noticed this Borg offering.....so does anyone know what type of "fluorite" lens this is? Just curious.

What are all the part #'s for that configuration to get it working with the Atik 314L? Borgs are very interesting...

Cuda, they mentioned it is made of Fluorite, so CaF2. I hope that's what you were asking?

There are a lot of part numbers involved and few different options. Ted at Hutech can walk you through them. The back focus for the 314L+ is 12mm and the metal back from the reducer is 75mm. My setup has the 0.66x Triplet Super Reducer, filter drawer and a camera rotator. It is an amazing setup for wide field. You have to get pretty creative to mount it though.

Hi AJ,

Beautiful images. Would you mind posting a lens shot? I have been talking to Ted and am on the wait list for the next lot. Looks like to optics are excellent. Do you have any more details about the quality of the optics? Like color correction, star test, etc. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Borgs really deserve to be more known.
AOK Swiss sells binocular telescope with Borg optics. Very nice.

Thanks John. Traveling for work right now. In about a week I can post a lens pic and a star test (done through my CCD). I do not have a way to use a diagonal or eyepiece with it. So I cannot speak to color correction.

Also, I am moving to a larger CCD (SXVR-H18). I will post some pics from that as well. The FL71 in this configuration is supposed to have a 30mm imaging circle. Since I shoot without flats, I very am curious to see how it does with a chip of that size.

Thanks Gene. It is a labor of love... Had to sell my CCD a couple of months ago to pay some bills though. Can't wait to get back under the stars again. It is a crime to have that scope collecting dust when the sky has been clear lately.

So I got my new SXVR-H18 and the FL71 handles the 8300 chip perfectly. I took this shot without flats: http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ Nice flat field all the way out to the edges. Even illumination and no coma that I can see.

Just found this interesting older thread on Borg's FL71. Would it be possible to use the Borg FL71 at f/3.6 (with the Super Reducer) as a widefield finderscope?
