The next Wickenburg Star Party will be on October 26. As usual, we'll be at Sophie's Flat. Dress for cooler weather, and look for a conditions report mid-morning on the 26th. Ron, sorry you can't make it, but we'll see you in Tucson at ASAE.
Clear, Dark, and Steady.

The moon rises at Midnight and CLear Sky indicates we could be good until morning with cloud patches in the early morning to dodge. Wanting a gander at the comet.

According to my NOAA Weather Radio, they're calling for partly cloudy, so we'll see what happens. A few wispy high clouds are one thing, but a cirrostratus layer is another.

We'll see what happens.

We started out at dusk w/ about 50% clear. The area of clear moved around during the evening, but by 9 pm we were down to about 30% clear. Weather was perfect. We'll try again next month.

I was in Sun City West until about 4PM, then took the calculated risk and drove out to Wickenburg. Like Jwemes said, the seeing wasn't all that great, the atmosphere was mushy and we packed it up a little before 9PM.

I didn't even get out my binoculars, although I enjoyed a little bit of telescope time.

The November version of the Wickenburg Public Star Party will be on November 23. Location is the same-Sophies Flat. Look for a conditions update mid-morning on the 23rd.

Regardless of the current "vile" weather forecast; if conditions look at all promising, on Saturday morning, I'll post a "current conditions" report.

A road report might be very useful if the skies do clear. We've gotten a fair amount of rain here in Phoenix and more was expected north of us.

WHAT!!??
Do you really expect me to drive out into that sand and gumbo.....just to let you know that the road is impassable, and that I'll have to wait for a few days to get my truck out?
We've gone over 1.5 inches as of 3PM local time. Every time I look toward the Bradshaws, all I can see is a gray curtain of rain. My honest evaluation at this point is that the road is too slimy and the sky won't clear 'til Sunday. Hate to be so negative. If you DON'T see a report tomorrow, it means that I can tell the future pretty well.
But then....a lack of hope indicates despair, and things aren't quite that bad.

Weather reports say there will be some clearing tomorrow morning but a second system seems to be on the way (I'm very unclear on that part).

But it is very hard to be optimistic at this point.

Oh, and thank you for offering to personally check out the road. You are a real trooper sir!

:)

I waited for a report, all I can assume is that indeed our fearless leader is stuck in the mud on the road indicating the jig is up until next month.

I hope he brought coffee, looks like it's gonna be a cold one! :D

The implication in the previous message was that poor conditions and skeptical projections would result in NO midmorning report. Indeed, the earlier suggestions were borne out by observed conditions, and so...no report.

Sufficient brainless 'mudders' have already turned Constellation into a repair project for Yavapai county maintenance.

As of 0500 local time Sunday, the water nebulae continue to leak.

Happy Turkey Day to all, and the next date is December 28.

Since we could not meet up last weekend I figured I had to tease you a bit yesterday.

Too bad about the mudders. Selfish bleepers.

I found out about the problem with the weather. Someone in Arizona just took delivery of a brand new AP 175 F8 SN 52. These scopes can pack a awful lot of moistons from Rockford Illinois. :foreheadslap: The one thing is that the new owner still does not have his mountng plate. This can go on a while. :bawling: :bawling:
:bawling:
