Welcome to the Gemini "club"... it is definitely a "love or hate" type thing...

Me, once I got used to Gemini, I'm a "lover" ;)

Best for me is that it operates well in the very cold, no display dimming issues like the LCD displays on NexStar, etc... AND you can operate it without having to LOOK at it!

(again, once you memorize the "layers") ;)

I've no experience (obviously) yet with Gemini II; I'm not going to be an early adopter of it, unless - heaven forbid - I have another lightning strike/event and have no choice!

Thanks Dave. I have decided to embrace the future. Hopefully the G2 will be far enough along by the time I get my mount I can run it off a laptop in my observatory. Since I will rarely move it, alignment issues should not be a problem.

MistyRidge,
Welcome to the club, When is your "delivery" date? Mine should be sometime next month or maybe early June. I ordered IIRC early March.

I am sure the G2 will be excellent when the software is fully updated and functional. There are always difficulties with new products, but they are usually worked out.

Hey Mike,
So you decided. I think you will really enjoy the G11 as it is a well made mount and Gemini II while evolving is a very promising platform that is sure to go a long way.

So, it only took me 4 weeks to get mine after I was told it may take much longer! You just never know.

Just to let folks know how good of a company Losmandy is, I had an issue with the Real Time Clock in the main Gemini II unit. Russell and Scott at Losmandy were very responsive. I shipped them the unit and they shipped it back within 24 hours of receiving it from me. Compared to service I have received from other mount manufacturers whom I will not mention, that was the speed of light for a response time! I in no way regret my decision to buy from Losmandy. Sorry, did not mean to thread jack, just to reinforce Mike's decision.

Kirk, Losmandy is a lot closer. I could drive to them if I had to only a little over 300mi. I will be following the firmware dev. on the Y site.

Well Mike you do have that decided advantage over me...its about 3000 miles for me. Might be worth the 300 mile trip though if they give you a tour of the shop! I hope your wait is not too long, although it will give you time to mull over mount accessories.

I just purchased a G11 with intent of adding the Gemini II upgrade as my budget allows. Anyone watching want to chime in on when they'll be available?

Welcome to Cloudy Nights! :) You can order the Gemini II retrofit kits for a G11 right now. They are listed on the Losmandy site for $1595 for a kit with standard servo motors or $1795 if you want the beefier Maxon motors. As previously stated the firmware is on the beta side but certainly usable.

Thanks!

Awesome... I've been pushing a broken 12" LX200 for a couple of years now and finally took the plunge on purchasing a quality mount, deforking my ota.

I'm prone to breaking things, and my decision on going with Losmandy (beside a solid platform that's made here in the states), is the accessibility of parts, that doesn't require the tele/mount to be shipped back to the manufacturer.

I'm still "pushing" now, but at least I'm able to electronically center, then track what I'm looking at.

I can't wait to get my hands on that Gemini...

Well a PC software provide a G-11 with GOTO capability? If so, do I need to buy the Gemini system? And what software would that be?

Not with the "standard" 492 drives. You'd need a Gemini or other aftermarket goto system installed.
