Hello, I've just uploaded this movie to youtube made from drawings by Galileo almost 400 years ago.

I had it on google video for IYA '09, but google's deleting videos next month, hence the upload to youtube.

Thank you for sharing the Galileo sunspot sketches (sequence) movie with us all. Galileo was the true first astronomical artist.

You actually get quite a sense of the sun being a 3D sphere from that, with the foreshortening of the spots as they move from the limb to the centre to the other limb.

Very good indeed, it's amazing at how much detail Galileo observed with his basic instrument.
