Please excuse this one if it seems downright DUMB, but I'm a bit lost here.

As do MOST of the Newbie DIY types out there, I come into free. discarded telescope components from time to time.

Among MY pile of junk, there's a GEM that seems to be useful for my purposes... but finding the proper rail to fit INTO the mount becomes an interesting question!

Is there any Internet source for the dimensions of the dovetails for the various EQ-? style mounting rails?

I haven't been able to locate that information online... can somebody steer me in the right direction?

Thanks!

There are two prevalent dovetail types around now - Vixen "V" and Losmandy "D". I'm sure that there are many others, but those seem to be the most common. You should be able to find dimensions for both on the ADM site:

Good luck,

Dave

To identify a mount type, all you need to do is post a picture on here, and quite soon, you'll get all kinds of help as to what you have on your hands. It's just what we do...
