I have a chance to pick up a Western Field Telescope, made in Japan. D=60mm, F=800mm. My question: Does anybody know anything about these. I have never heard of them before. It would involve a little drive for me. Thanks all. :)

All depends on who made it. If it is Royal Astro go for it!

Thanks, do you have any more information about these. When they were made, etc.

Wow. I've heard of Western Field rifles and shotguns sold by Mongtomery Ward, but never a Western Field telescope. I assumed by the title of your post it was most likely a spotting scope, but obviously not from the specs you described.

IIRC Montgomery Wards sold telescopes for many years and made by a few different manufacturers. Some good, some not so good. Seeing the focuser label and determining who made the scope is going to let you know good or bad. The Montgomery Wards scope pictured is of good quality.

These two are on craigslist (maybe the pix will jog a thought from the experts on the original mfr. and quality?)

Telescope and Stand - $20 (Louisburg, NC 27549)

WESTERN FIELD ASTRONOMICAL TELESCOPE - $35 (WEST PHOENIX)

I was thinking circle T was more likely. Did Royal Astro make a 60 X 800?

Yes Keith, more than likely a Circle T or even worse! We have seen some unusual combinations and without seeing all the Wards catalogues you never know what they may have imported. IIRC the R-63 was about that size.
