So I started the install and found I have the wrong version of PVCam for this driver. I have a pretty lame internet connection so downloading 2.7.10 has proved to be an issue(times out). I'll have to go somewhere else tomorrow and download it ...

My guess is that it would probably will work with any PVCAM 2.7.x driver. I placed that installer message as a reference since I only know of one version that works for sure.

My PVcam version is 2.6.93. I'll be away from home for the next 4 days. If I can't get it tested tonight, it'll be next weekend before I'll get another chance.

So I could download a 653 megabyte ISO from Microsoft from home but I couldn't get the PVcame package of 51 Mb to complete to save my life. Now that I'm out on Whidbey Island on a regular broadband connection (and my camera and gear is at home) I got PVCam 2.7.10 downloaded. So, Maybe Thursday Night I'll get some testing done...

Hi Howard
I installed PVcam 2.7.10, ASCOM Platform 6SP3, Nebulosity 2.4, and the driver you wrote.

I tried it in Nebulosity first and it failed to connect.
"cannot load driver ASCOM.Photometrics.Camera"

I then tried it in MaximDL 5 Pro. Everything seemed to be working until I triggered the exposure.

"The Plug-in driver was unable to establish a link to the hardware. (-4)"

Not really sure on the Maxim issue because I then went back to "camera setup" and selected "disconnect" and it behaved just as it does with the direct PVcam, with a little tone as it disconnects.

So then as another check, I connected through the PVcam driver and took a couple dark frames and everything functioned fine.
Dell D630
OS Windows XP-Pro SP3
Intel T-7300 2.0Ghz C2D(centrino Duo)
1Gb of RAM
Connected to a Dock with PCI expansion

I'll have to see about getting a copy of MaximDL or Nebulosity and to take a look. If you could turn on logging in my driver and get me a copy of the log file it might help to provide some insight as to why they aren't working.

I'll try to get that done today.. Whay are you using? I also have Images Plus Camera Control, that I have not used yet since upgrading to the latest version a few weeks ago.

Ok, I found a bug that was messing things up... I downloaded the demo version of Nebulosity and it didn't work. The ASCOM driver has two paths to return image data, my software was using the other one so was fine. Stupid simple thing and this is now fixed. The wife is dragging me out of the house and I will post an update to my site later today.

The new version is on my site. With Nebulosity, you might be experiencing an installation problem with the ASCOM driver. I'd try installing my new one, rebooting, and seeing if Nebulosity finds the driver. The old version almost worked with Neb. for me except image data wasn't returned, now that's fixed and it seems ok (at first glance). I can take a closer look and maybe use the pre-packaged installers that ASCOM provides to correct this. As for MaximDL I'm waiting for an email from them to get the Demo and I'll take a look. Hard to say, but one or two possibilities occur to me as to why it would bomb out like that. The Quantix driver is very picky about the order in which you access functions to control the camera.

Ok, I did get the demo of the latest MaximDL. It was looking for CameraStatus values from the ASCOM driver which I wasn't really returning properly. I quick fix and it's also up and running for me now.

I finally got around to trying the ASCOM driver version 0.61 in three imaging apps... My Sky Planetarium, Nebulosity, and MaximDL (newest versions as of 10/15/13). It functions fine for me in all three. I noticed the driver has a logging bug, but it's only an annoyance when you go into the setup dialog after having connected to the driver. Must not be closing a file handle when disconnecting. This newest and should-be-working version is on my site, let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Will Do this weekend. Back on Whidbey Island till Friday evening. I tested out another camera last weekend. A Camera Link Machine Vision camera. It shows promise but not currently long exposure capable..yet.

OK so I'm having a problem with the 2.7.10 version of the software. It seems to crash during the 10th exposure. I never encountered this issue while using the older Pvcam.

Crashes within RSImage or any software? No such problem here, during testing I was doing much longer sequences.

PVCam installation bug? Old version still lingering, wrong dll being loaded somewhere?
PVCam & Windows Vista/7/8 interaction bug? XP is ok for me.
PVCam & Camera bug? Camera firmware older/different than mine?

I'd go back to the original PVCam version and see if it clears the problem... May very well work with ASCOM driver anyway.

Sorry for the hassle, murphy's law I guess.

You probably know this as well as I... but, I'll mention it anyway just incase older versions of RSImage didn't do this: RSImage will crash on my system if I try to capture a sequence of too many images. It seems that it holds the rather hugh amount of image data from a sequence all in memory (as opposed to writing the images to disk as it goes).

XP Pro machine
without the driver you wrote
MaximDL 5 Pro

If I limit to 9 exposures its fine. If I go to 10... 10 never completes it just sits there with the clock running. in order to recover I have to disconnect (in software) turn off the camera, turn back on>connect(in software)and it works fine (as long as I don't go over 9.

I was doing 10 minute exposures. Home now, gear is in Winthrop, heading back over on Monday for a forecasted clear night... I'll re-install older version monday(and make sure any remenant is Gone)

Good news. I ran two tests to see if a similar problem exists with my system, one with MaximDL and my ASCOM driver and one with the MaximDL and it's plugin. Both tests consisted of 12 x 10 minute exposures. No problems, everything worked fine here.

I see that the last version of MaximDL, 5.24, includes improvements/fixes for the Roper PVCam plugin. One was described as "Fixed problems with subframes".

Hello all,

Howard(if I may), Thank you for developing the driver. This is somthing that has been sorely needed for a long time. I downloaded the driver and will see if I can get it going in nebulosity. Can't thank you enough.

No problem. I really wrote it for my own purposes, spent about a day (in total) on it. Let me know how it goes/if it works. I worry about the installer registering the driver correctly, I have only have one computer (with the pci interface card/camera) and it was used for developing the driver AND for testing the installation routine. This makes me nervous that the compiler/development environment wasn't applying some (unknown to me) magic registering the dotnet/com assembly. Then there's the million variations of operating-system/camera/controller(firmware) etc. to trip things up too.

But to fix anything I need to know if/how it's broken first so I like to hear from those who try it out.

Just thought I'd revive the old thread for us Quantix owners (7 pgs deep)...Took subs of M82 with SN2014J, LRGB 15x2m. It was about 5F out, the CCD temp was about -47C. Only had a few small problems due to the cold (guiding wasn't perfect) - the Prontor shutter was a little slow at first but it was fine once it had been operated a few times. I was happily surprised that everything worked - I hadn't used that setup in a few weeks during which we had some warm wet weather that left moisture all over the equipment despite the use of dessicators (they were saturated). Hope you're all having fun with these beasts as weather and time allow. Clear skies --Keith

Great Shot! The weather here has been pretty bad, I've had a few chances but I really prefer some solid clear weather before I set up this cam. I don't have an "Obs" so its fresh setup every time. Hoping to get some imaging time with the Quantix in the next month...
