Sean, it's like any precision instrument: there may be a bit of variation from sample to sample. There is a LOT of variation between observers. Some people are just bothered by color and edge degradation while others barely notice even using the same instrument. So sample variation can influence reviews as well as reviewer susceptibilities. YOU are the most relevant reviewer in the end.

Two thoughts. Don't you live in the far south? If so find a Portland area dealer & try them out. Second option: buy used & if you don't like them, you could re-sell them for very little loss of money if any. Again, make sure you are getting the lighter, newer model.

Sean, then let me know if you want to borrow my Canon bins after February 12th. Also, Tall's Cameras, Glaziers & Captains are some local stores that might carry them. I don't think Cabella's has them but I could be wrong. Perhaps some Everett camera store?

Amazon.com has them on sale for $660 but you pay sale tax. Adorama has them on sale for $699 but no sales tax. And you can always advertise for used ones here or that other site.

Make sure you are getting the 12X36 IS II.

I am buying these new. I need the warrantee because there is too much that could need adjustment if they aren't working right. One reviewer had some issues but, canon fixed them all for him. I want that piece of mind.

That makes good sense to me. The IS binocs are qualitatively different than a passive optical system.

I note there's a chance at some clearing tonight. Maybe I'll get a chance to wheel Sugaree outside.

I laughed when I saw the three posts. Then laughed again when I read your post.

Hey Tom, I need to change my email here on CN. Astromart was easy even with their strict email policy. Should I just PM Carol?

Ill believe it when I see it. I still haven't taken my used and only gigantic TV eyepiece out for its first light. Or my moonlite focuser on my dob. The latter is more important so I can make sure it works correctly BEFORE I drive to goldendale. I would hate to find out down there that I need an extension or something.

Clear skies are needed by me. I am in complete astro withdrawls. A good 3 hour session would be welcome :)

I do not care if it's a wonderful, warm, cloudless couple of nights coming our way or not. Makes NO DIFFERENCE TO ME AT ALL.

You see, I am stuck at my Kirkland house (getting ready to put it on the market) while all my astro gear has been moved to Coupeville! :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Tom (Pegs) taught me all I know, so you are also connected with a "current" Mod.

I think Carol figured most of it out on her own. I'm happily retired from managing the boards and I'm grateful for the mods and admins who've stepped up to cover for my laziness.

It is a big commitment. They outlawed phone use at work now so I can't be on CN as much. Now I won't ever be able to do it since I spend so much time at work. Thanks Carol for fixing my email.

That oughta offset someone else's new EP.

I went out around 8 last night, saw it was clear, put out recliner & turned off outside light, about an hour later put on woolies, grabbed binos and went out. Oh, now it's cloudy. :bangbangbang:
