@Psonice, the app will be approx 470MB in size for all charts. I've tested different formats (bitmap, pdf, jpg). Slightly compressed JPG turned out to be the fastest. So the set is made of 700 JPG's of good quality.
@Dave, i will provide a fancier index image with exactly the same dimensions.
The links are made by keeping an array of charts which contain the RA/Dec and bordering charts. This is required for good navigation and search functionality.

And if they're mostly black + white with little detail, would compressed png give a better quality/size ratio? Guess that's one you've tested, but if not it might be worth a go. Low colour modes should be OK for this too.

For black + white, GIF should be relatively small as well.

Yes, i've tested PNG too. But the performance is good as well as the total size (about half the size of SkySafari), so i'll stick with JPEG :)
BTW:
If someone wants to testdrive the app and provide lots of feedback (!), send me a mail to dev@ddq.nl and i'll add you to the testing team.

Count me in with Dave. Even with the zoom in/out, it would be great to be able to click on a link on the left, right, top, or bottom chart number to go to that map.

Now, perhaps that's not necessary, if one can swipe left-right, up or down to go the chart in question. However, both methods would be useful--e.g., there could even be embedded links to jump to additional, very deep charts, say for the Virgo Cluster or Sagittarius-- much the way the old Edmund Mag 6 Star Atlas did.

I've submitted the app today. Fingers crossed. This version contains
- all Triatlas C charts
- Flip/Mirror
- Night mode
- Brightness
- Full Screen mode
- Screen rotation (portrait/landscape)
- In-map navigation to neighbouring charts (the chart numbers Astraforce Paul is mentioning)
This app will be FREE of charge!
Thanks to everyone who's involved with testing.
In the meanwhile i'll continue to add some 'premium features to the app:

- Setting circles
- Memo recorder
- NGC/Messier search
- Chart inversion

Please, update us.

PS: iPushto looks promising. Does it really work with an iron tube?

Hi kkokkolis,
Within 2 weeks i'll move to a place in the mountains to observe and test the iPhone/iPad atlas app. After bugfixing and finetune i'll submit the app. It will be late september/oct.

PS It's easy to test if your telescope is 'iPushTo' capable by starting the compass app and see if there's a 'compass interference' message all the time. If it s not, or if it dissapears you can purchase the Pushto app. :)

That's true, but i was not satisfied with the night vision (especially toolbars/buttons) so i decided to reject this release. I want the program to be good.

I have not seen this app, but I would recommend a + and - tap capability for zooming in and out (like SkySafari). I find this to be more accurate than pinching plus I use a stylus on my iPad. Thanks for listening.

Yes, i've submitted the app a month ago for review from Apple. But it was rejected because it didn't have enough eyecandy, whistles and bells according to my friends in Cupertino. I'm improving the artwork now, but that will take a while.

Excellent application!. Can't wait to test it!

Have you tried png compression?. It tends to be the best in charts

Does anyone know if this app is finally available for download? It sounds like such a good idea to be able to read and navigate the wonderful Triatlas on the IPad.

Hi,
The app was rejected because of cosmetical issues. They didn't like the star charts at Apple. Maybe it will show up at Cydia, because of the time spent. The app works really well.
If anyone can design a beautiful index page (thats what the complaint was about), i'll be glad to hear. I'm not good at graphical design. (Better at coding :) )
Regards
Norbert

Just downloading. Imam off to a Starparty soon, a lot easier to carry the ipadnthan a full set of the triatlas. I printed the b/c set out, so,it will be interesting to see how the app performs.moff to find the red screen film and some scissors!

Thanks for all the hard work that this must have taken
