One more recent one. M-57, 6/10/12, 12" f/5 Dob, 7mm+Barlow=430X (No tracking!), no filter, NELM 5.3
I spent a long time getting this one correct. I like to touch-up all my sketches from memory, only consulting photos if I really mess up the stars. I like this one; the western edge came out a little choppy however. Tough part is getting the subtle elongation on the NE/SW ends.

Matt,

Nice capture of Messier 57. I actually like the choppy affect as it provides a level of realism of what is seen in the eyepiece. Looks like you got the western 13.0 star in the interior of the Ring and the star to the S.E. in the ring. Again, a find capture and sketch. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks everyone.

Jay, I didn't know there was a mag 13 star in the nebulosity. I don't recall seeing any stars within the ring itself, so I either did see something subconsciously and sketched it, or it's just inadvertent. I'll have to check some photos. I was happy to get that mag 14.5 star off the NW side.

Good sketch. I do most/all of my sketches from 'notes' I sketch at the eyepiece then finish in the house, maybe a day or two later. I also use references to verify what I observed.
