Under the blog (address under my signature) you can find a story titled "The Waning Moon in the San Joaquin Valley". Linda and I spent a few days there with friends but it also gave opportunity to wake early and see the waning moon. I cannot do that in Virginia at the end of the lunar cycle without traveling to a high spot. We did not have any instruments per se....but it was a grand opportunity on a special trip. Hence, the story ... and sketches.

Thanks Mel. Trying to obey advice I got....sketch when you can. The moon was nice but tried to capture the surroundings as a matter of record. It helped later as we struggled to find the crescent in the haze...using the telephone poles as guide marks.

Thanks Frank. Have had clear nights since then but too busy, then the storm whacked us. So far...2.5 days with no power and water but no damage. Quite a few got some serious damage. Will try to observe the moon this week again but by battery power.
