Here are the the June 2012 DSLR Semi-Finalists in the Cloudy Nights Imaging/Sketching Contest.

Here is my entry:

M4 globular cluster.

Distance 7.2 kly.
Taken from an outer suburb of Melbourne Australia.
Date 27th June 2012.

11 frames, 5 minutes each at ISO 800,
9 frames, 31 seconds each at ISO 800,
8 frames at 61 seconds each at ISO 800.
Total integration time 1 hour 10 m 4s.
37 dark frames - no flats.
Stacks of the shorter exposure frames were
used to brush in the core & some brighter stars
& also to extract colour for the stars in the final picture.

Telescope 8" f6 Newt, EQ6 Pro modified mount, Baader MPCC,
Astronomic CLS-CCD filter with an unmodified Canon EOS 1000d.
Lodestar guide camera with TS9 OAG.
PHD guiding, Dither Master from Nicola with Canon remote shooting.
Processed in PS CS5 64 bit & Fitswork4.

I guess I should throw up some competition , something from last month.

24 5min subs with no filter from a semi dark sky at ISO 1600 stacked in DSS and then adjusted in PS CS2. Canon 500D(Gary Honis modded) being run by Backyard EOS , Orion Atlas mount and the scope is a Celestron 8" SCT with a .63 focal reducer(FL 1280) and a 7x40mm finderscope as a guide scope.

ONAG On-Axis Guider, Lodestar Autoguider, PHD Guiding
Canon 450D - Gary Honis modified

Image is 173 x 3 minutes @ ISO 1600 (8 1/2 hours)
taken 5/16/12, 5/19/12, and 5/21/12
Focal length is 1160mm, f/ratio is f/5.8

Images aquired using APT
Guided with Starshoot Autoguider and 50mm guide scope
Aligned and stacked with Nebulosity
Post-process with StarTools GIMP & Windows Live Photo

29 total frames: (3hrs 25min) with an equal # of dark frames
5x300 5x600 3x900 iso 800 Canon T3(modified) with Astronomik Ha clip-in filter
5x60 6x300 5x600 iso 800 Canon T3i no filters

Nice work Scott - it's even more amazing
that your M83 was taken from a low elevation.
Also - it was featured as a picture of the day in the famous Astronomy magazine.
