Hi Everyone,

Jupiter is up for early risers and looking good. This is my first Jupiter observation of the 2012 apparition and shows the changes happening in the two main belts--this will be interesting to watch evolve.

I only used a 2B pencil on the drawing. The belts looked brownish and the festoon bluish. Maybe as I get more practice this apparition I'll try to do some color sketches of the King.

I've been absent from this forum lately and hope to get caught up on all the fine work posted here--you folks are prolific as always.

Michael,

I was wondering where you were. Nice to have you back. Excellent Jupiter sketch. The broad bisection in the NEB is interesting.

Frank :)

Thanks, everyone. :) Hope you get your own look at Jupiter soon.

Frank, it's been one of those summers where plans go out the window due to events. When I have had a chance for astronomy, I've been focused on trying to locate Pluto. It has been surprisingly tough for me to find and confirm an observation of the ex-planet. Hope you haven't been burning up there in Chicagoland.

great sketch of Jup, now is the time to discover new stuff since last opposition season, glad to see you got some observing time in.

Thanks, folks. The NEB revival (remember when the NEB went away sort of and then started coming back last spring?) seems to be coming along just fine, doesn't it?

Here is a great report by Eric Jamison in which he describes his observation of the NEB revival last month.

Michael,

this is a very nice sketch, even in B&W it caries a lot of information on the features of the planet.

Thanks for posting!

Jean
