I've posted my Astronomical League Dark Nebulae program sketches and observations at Observing Dark Nebulae --- http://www.bbastrodesigns.com/dneb/Observing%20Dark%20Nebulae.html

Mel,
I read your introductory text, and have just one correction to suggest. The films of Barnard's day were mostly--if not exclusively--insensitive to red light. this is why reflection nebulae are often more prominent than emission nebulae. Indeed, for the purpose of dark cloud imaging, enhanced blue sensitivity is an advantage, in that it accentuates the effect of extinction, where shorter wavelengths are more strongly attenuated.

Overall, a very nice introduction to the techniques of observing this fascinating class of object! I have yet to browse your sketches...
