My first Lunar sketch - Gassendi crater on 27 Aug 2012, 22-23 CDT, observed through my 8" Newtonian at 240x mag (Baader Hyperion 5mm). Charcoal / graphite on vellum bristol.

Whew! This is really hard, probably undertook too big of a challenge for the first time!

Really good job of your first lunar sketch! I like how you have rendered the detail with strong, confident lines and shading. Can't wait to see more! :refractor::rollgrin::bow:

Wow, this target was certainly difficult to sketch, but it was certainly not too big a challenge for your skills! Your sketch is magnificient!

If this is a first sketch, what should it be within 10 lunardrawings! :waytogo:

Thank you for your comments. It took me 1.5 hour to sketch it. The amount of detail one starts to see while sketching is just absolutely amazing.

Marcin,

Very well done. It is one of the finer craters that poses well for a sketch. Very fine portrait of Gassendi.

Frank :)

that's an excellent first sketch...and of one of the more difficult craters to render. Well done!
