Here's my NGC 7129:

High Resolution Image and more image info available at

This is a stack of 171 x 3 minutes subs (8 1/2 hours total) using focus stacking with a Celestron C-8, Celestron focal reducer at f/5.8 (1160mm), and a Gary Honis modified Canon 450D (Baader mod). Guiding is with ONAG on-axis guider, Lodestar autoguider, and Phd guiding.

For my version of this target I went a little different and decided to shoot a widefield of the area to see if there was any dust nearby.

It turned out the ED80 gave too wide a field for this so I croped it by 50% and lost some resolution as a result.

26 10min subs with no filter at ISO 800 stacked in DSS then adjusted in PS CS2. Canon 500D(modded) , Orion Atlas mount and the scope was an ED80 with WOVII FR and a 7x40mm finder as a guide scope.

Congratulations and good luck to each entrant!

Thank you very much, Ivo, Charlie, and Erik. I really enjoyed this target, as it was very tricky given the faint nebulosity and subtle dark regions in the image.

I'm quite honored to have my image selected, as I was extremely impressed with the very high quality of all 3 of the other entries. I think the voting clearly reflected this - all of our images received a respectable split of the vote. As it happens, I didn't vote at all - but I easily could have voted for any one of the other images. So, congrats to Ivo, Scully, and Erik for their excellent images!

I'd like November's target to be NGC 772 - a very cool Arp galaxy with lots faint, fuzzy friends.

Scott, congratulations; I am new to this challenge thing. Can you explain how it is done, how to enter, rules, timelines, etc. How target is picked; are you suggesting NGC 772 or is IT the target for Nov.? Details will be appreciated. Thx

Hi Mike -

Thank you for the congrats. As far as entering the contest, rules, etc - Each month when Charlie posts the Challenge Submission thread, he includes the rules at the top of the posting. So, to find out about it, you can look at the October 2012 DSLR Challenge submission thread. To enter your submission, just reply to Charlie's posting and include your image, links to hi res version (optional) and image info.

As far as choosing the targets - whoever wins the contest for a month chooses the target for the following month. So, Bruno won the August Challenge (voting done in September), and he chose October's target as NGC 7293 (Helix nebula). Similarly, I won the September challenge (voting in October), and I've chosen NGC 772 as the target.

For clarity - NGC 772 IS the target for November's challenge - have fun with it!
