Hi all,

I've had a new EON 120 ED for about 6 weeks now and felt it was time to take a shot at a D.S. sketch. Ya, M57, simple enough but straight through the light dome of Detroit makes it a challenge, I guess.

Graphite pencil on white paper inverted with Paint.Net. I think the inverted nebula image is brighter than the eyepiece view and I must work on that. Anxious for Jupiter to clear the trees at a reasonable hour.

Nice sketch. You're getting some really good views through your scope.

Mel, brightness is very difficult to translate when you are attempting to predict the negative conversion. Once converted you can always play with the gamma or contrast settings, if that is important to your final vision. I'm still learning how to emulate my own astro sketches, so I'm only speaking from a photographer's POV. I'm guessing you will find a solution in short order.

What's more important is that you have payed careful attention to the details at the eyepiece, and I'd say your drawing is excellent. I especially like how you've rendered the inner subtleties of the Ring. Keep it up! :)

Mel

I like it. Very well done.

Dennis

Its why I always loved more the sketches than the photos.

Dennis, Ed, Andre,

Your remarks are very encouraging. Thank you.

Jason, Thank you for the valuable advice. I will certainly keep it in mind for the next work.

I agree, nice job, Mel. Some good advice above. I look forward to more of your work, especially Jupiter.

Hey - great sketch!! Keep it up - I've found sketching really adds to my enjoyment of observing. I used to try to make at least one sketch every observing session, but I've found that I'm making more and more each time I go out.

Norme, Pat,

Thank you both. Waiting for this weather system to clear off and get outside.
