I seem to remember reading that the 7" Mak uses the same outer diameter and accessories as the 8". is that correct?

Has anyone purchased an aftermarket rail for their de-forked scope? If so, what was the size?

I'm afraid this won't be a definitive answer but I did put the large Losmandy rail on top and narrow counterweight rail on the bottom of my Mak.

The large top rail is 17.25 inches long and has two sets of mount holes on one end to accomodate slightly different tube lengths. If I remember right the extra holes are there so the rail fits both the regular 8" SCT and the 7" Mak.

It would probably pay to verify that with whatever supplier you choose to purchase from.

Thanks Mike - any chance you could measure the distance between bolt centers for me? I dont have the Mak yet, and am trying to get my mounting scheme lined up.

The 7" Mak can uses ALL accessories for the 8" LX200 (piggyback brackets, dew shields, heaters, focus masks, etc.), BUT the length of the tube for something like a dovetail or mounting rail for the top is the size of the 10" dovetail and mounting rails. Just make sure you have some room to wiggle for comfort.

Correct. The 10" LX200 rail will fit the 7" LX200 Mak.

sorry Subway, but the 10" dovetail will not fit the 7" OTA.
I own both and the ADM dovetail I bought for my 10" is about 1/2" too short for the 7" Mak.
16 and 1/2 or 5/16 is about correct.

the other things such as dew heater and dew shields are the same as the 8".

Hi Theo:

I had that scope for a few years and every length-wise accessory was the same size as the 10". In fact, I used 2 ADM rails ("dovetail" different?) from my 10" on the 7 (pictured) when I sold the 10. The width-wise equipment, as you say, is from the 8", even though the 8" dewshield is slightly larger and required some double-sided tape to make a perfect fit with the Mak. That's the experience I had. Yours is apparently different.

Thanks, Chris

??? I don't understand... why would this be? I wanted to mount my autoguider on my 7 but found the dovetail from the 10 (which I thought might fit) to be too short. I also went to the ADM site and looked up the dovetail for the 10, and the 7 was not on the application list. I am not in argument about this, but yours works but mine does not. typical I guess. I open my yap about something I think I know and....

so, I am asking... how is this? we are talking about the same brand. are the radius blocks offset maybe? because to measure, I just put the dovetail up against the 7's screws to see if it would work, and it came up about a half inch short.

confused

ok, rereading, I see Mike says his losmandy rail was 17.25"
my ADM is not that long. I ordered my dovetail specifically for the 10. maybe yours was for something larger?

No big deal dude!

I think that you may have placed the hole over a different hole than you were supposed to. Some of these mounting holes are offset to accomodate, say, only Meade accessories. Also, note in the picture that I didn't use a radius block. My bolts go straight down through the holes and into the casting. You may have put yours through the block and maybe a slot pulled it into the wrong position?

Thanks, Chris

something that may make a difference is that I have been talking about a "D" plate which is 4" wide, and what you have there is of different dimensions. maybe something entirely different altogether, I don't know. I never had mine mounted on the 7. as I said, to see if the dovetail would work, all I did was hold the plate which was ordered for the 10, along side of the screws in the 7. and it was about 1/2" too short. no radius blocks or screws involved.
nothing mounted.
