Remember those old early '80's Questar adds that had a pic of a Questar that was cut in half? Well I'm fairly sure that we have had that very Questar on display at the Cernan Space Center for over 22 years. Recently I had the task of cleaning it up and decided to to take a few close up pics and thought it would be cool to show them here....

Thanks but I wonder why is there a spring in the light baffle tube? What is that all about?? Wouldn't it interfere with the light path?

What a fun look inside. I remember those ads. It's not a spring it's thereto block stray light. The inside of the baffle doesn't appear to be blackened.

Thanks from me too for posting these pics, very interesting. I remember those ads well, as a young sprout (as Uncle Rod would say) I spent (wasted?) many an hour drooling over the Questsr ads in Sky & 'Scope wishing I had one.

Still do wish I had one.

Nice images Darren!

The eyepiece shown in the cut-away is not a Brandon, but a Japanese widefield design from the earlier days of Questar. Just count the number of glass-elements and you know it is more than the 4 in a Brandon.....

If it is out of the light path it would act like a baffle!
I wonder if views with that would be half A*s LOL

But just to be clear, is this the 90mm Questar?

Darren,

Nice Post. If it has a serial number it is on the bottom base plate. Pick the Lady up and turn her over and it will be on that plate. In the early ones (before the mid-1990s) it was just put on by hand and not stamped.

Thanks for the Post, Bill
