Here is a sketch from this Sept of NGC 891.I sketched it at the Merritt Star Quest using my 15" dob.It took me about an hour to render what I saw.The sketch was done on regular printer paper after which I did a pastel version of it at home.

Very nice sketch, this is a good representation of how this galaxy looks through my 15-inch Dob too.

Beautiful rendering, John! One of my favorite galaxies. Like others it reminds me of the view trough my 12".

John,

A very impressive sketch of a great edge on show stopper galaxy.
You must be happy with that well spent time.

Frank :)

Very nice capture of Caldwell 23. I agree with the others-very realistic.

Thanks for the comments.I really like to capture the feel and look of the object at the eyepiece. That is my primary goal when I venture out.The hardest part of sketching for me is I never seem to be satisfied with it.There is always a point when I just have to stop sketching the object and settle with what I have.Otherwise I could be there all night. And we all now how important telescope time is.

John, that's a nice sketch. I like the foreground stars in it.
