I own a simple LXD55 mount upgraded with a EQ5 tubular tripod stativ and an AD motor.
Where to find a goto kit for equipping this mount other than the SW kit (expensive).
Christopher Erikson did something with a 497 HC Meade, but impossible to find.
Any other source?

Stanislas-Jean,
Well My son could put a Starbook-S on it on his Vixen GP. They are "kissin' cousins" so it should work. Or I believe the SkySensor will work if you can find one. Neither of these is an inexpensive solution. My daughter has fought off several "offers" for her/my old '55. I get 1st refusal & it ain't goin' anywhere. There's too much work in it to make it worth selling off.

First choice is another 55 or 75, but that sort'a defeats the purpose. iOptron sold a kit as did Orion, but I can sell you a LXD75 head cheaper than either. Ditto for a starbook or Skysensor.

If you are able to cut aluminum and drill holes a DIY sytem can be made with Meade DS or DS2000 parts. The DS motors are getting scarch and run about $70 a pair when they show up. A $97 as will run you about $70-80. A salvageable DS2000 runs $30-50. So with an Autostar it's the cheapest solution and workable. Go to the Yhaoo Roboscope group for some ideas. There are more of this CG-5 project there.

imho goto-izing an LXD55 is not cost effective, not when you can get a celestron CG5 used for $400 to $450. and with goto native, no need for DIY adaptations.

Thanks but I have the lxd55 head already.
You see lxd55, cg5 are eq5 clones (no ball bearings inside where svp pro, cg5 goto has).
The DS motors has not the reputation of reliability.
I will go to a classic eq5 goto kit at final, always chineese one.

I had one of those DS motor conversions on my Vixen GP.

And you are right - they are terribly unreliable :tonofbricks:

If you want reliable I think your only choice is the EQ5 synscan kit.

One reason I prefer to work with the DS2K drives. They are a bit more rugged as far as the gears go.

I think you're talking about a different mount because the LXD-55 and the LXD-75 are both GoTo mounts that use the 497 hand controller.

Here's a link to the LXD-55 manual: http://www.tagged.co...?uid=1112944212

Controllers are available on evilBay....

I own an LXD-55 and to my knowledge they are all goto mounts.
You can get a copy of the manual right from the Meade website.
http://www.meade.com...truction_Man...

I assume you have some sort of Great Polaris style mount. Most of them are very similar. In the past there have been several kits made for converting these to goto mounts. But as has been stated, it would be cheaper and less effort to just buy a used LXD-55 or CG-5 mount. I do not know of anyone who still makes these kits.

If you are mechanically incline, you could take a Meade #492 or #493 kit and adapt it to your GP style mount (assuming you could find one of the kits). Then use a Meade 495 or 497 Autostar controller with it. This are kits Meade sold to motorize the DS series. I believe there are some threads on doing this in the Yahoo QCUIAG group.

Sometimes people get LXD55 or 75 mounts from which the motors were removed. I assume that's what the OP has.

Right on!

Hate to disclose the trick:

people buy a (new or used) GOTO mount, took out the motor+gears+intelligent motor controller+handbox, then sell the mount right back to the market (probably just $100 less than the paid price)...
Much cheaper this way!
(I know people did just the same way on Meade's DS motors and DH motors...)

Sense the musical chair? :) :)

I know all these, but where to find ds motors kit (that burned easily on DS2000 goto mounts).
