Eyepiece box on EBay. Up to $8.50 with six bids and four days to go! :jump:

So how much would you pay for an eyepiece box? Well, this isn't just ANY eyepiece box, of course. It belongs to the coveted Meade Research Grade series of vintage oculars. The eyepieces themselves without boxes can command very high prices at auctions. Good luck if you're bidding on this one! :)

The title of your post should be "Now this is a waste of money". :roflmao: How much would I pay for that? ...

Nothing.

Is the RG 20mm Meade WA a collector item ? That is the question. If yes having the box may increase the value of both. An empty green box for the Nagler 11mm T1 was sold 50$ on Ebay !

And it's got the slightly oversized "0" in the 20mm -- a rare variant indeed!

I'd say it's worth at least $9.00, but the box market is hot so it might hit $9.25.

I think its time for some reviews and shoot outs for eyepiece boxes! Who has the best cardboard? the best lettering? and the best assembly?
And, which ones crush best to go into the recycle bin?
 :roflmao:

Of course we all know that without the orginal box and caps eyepieces are totally worthless.

Well.......I will go ahead and admit I've paid twice as much for a vintage eyepiece or two based on the fact that it had the original box and caps.

Brandon Police here;

We've recieved your complaint. Unfortunatly we cannot respond at this time as we are busy seeing stuff with exceptional clarity.

Besides it's well known that only Televue owners suffer from box-itus.

I didn't think of selling my Televue 11mm Nagler-1 & box seperately about 22 years ago. Nor did I sell my Meade RG Orthos & Erfles without boxes about 5 years ago. Times have changed haven't they? :rofl5:

I have found that they work best without the boxes. Jim B. may disagree given he likes to observe with end caps in place. IMO though, best without the box. Same with the RGs.

I offered $50 for a Pentax Ortho box once (I'm missing one box for my set) and the other guy turned me down. I recently sold a full set of Meade RGs (Orthos and Wide Angles) with all boxes for $1700. I doubt I would have made that much had they lacked the boxes. Clearly there is market value for out of production eyepiece boxes.

Regards,

Jim

Denkmeier "Vaults" = shameless rip-offs of original Brandon thread on cases.
