Hi all,

The Sun has an encouraging number of spot groups as we enter what may be the year of the maximum - some suggest it has passed - a low not seen in decades. Let's hope not

The surface is so busy today that group identity is difficult and correction would be quite acceptable.

Edited to correct Active Region numbers - Thanks Jeffrey.

Very nice sketch Mel. You are all so lucky been able to sketch this very populated surface. On my side, I'm looking the clear skies passing away as I'm stuck at work up to 7pm. I missed 4 clear sunny days. Tomorrow I'll be home but some spot are already lost for me.

Andre.

Mel,

I saw all the spots at the SOHO site yesterday in the white light image. Your sketch of all these cool spots is wonderful.

Frank :)

Very nice sketch. I hope to see some sun today myself. As for the numbers: the group without number should be 1638.
1647 should be 1640 (1647 was already behind the western limb).
1648 is 1646 (1648 is much smaller and more to the south)

Andre, thanks. I had a 'window' yesterday that is closed today. Pretty normal winter conditions in my location.

Frank, thank you and congratulations on your LPOD sketch of Schroter. It's a dandy.

Jeffrey, thank you for the corrections. I will make the changes on my file copy and maybe edit the OP if it doesn't get messy.

Mel, very nice recording! Wow, I agree it is quite active there. Might inspire me to grab the mylar filter... :)

Fine sketch. Here in Belgium non-stop clouds since one week, so I'm missing the party.
