Did C/2012 K5 Linear occult mag 7.8 star HD29196 [= BD+07 671=GSC 682:1278 spec=A0] in Taurus below the Hyades last night [2013 Jan 11] I watched and recorded the pair for 40 min last night as the comet closed on the star but the comet passed just west [right] of the star from here in London UK but in the Americas it may have occulted the star ! Any reports?

It would have been a perfect opportunity for amateurs and pros to record spectral lines of the comet's coma superimposed on the AO Sirius type star and learn a little more about the comet's make-up! My prelim shots of approach below - good fun  The comet itself is fading from its brightest from 10 days ago.

ps: star HD29196 records as a close double star with comes @ ~210degs.

Looks like it did. Great images. I know Linear has come quite close to quite a few stars.
